When Habib Umar was teaching and delivering Islamic discourses in Oman, he often passed by a man who was heavily drunk and disorderly. Habib Umar always greeted him warmly, smiled at him, called him Sayyidi (my master)!

After a couple of weeks the same man turned up at his class, Habib with a huge smile asked him to sit next to him. Made sure he was being well looked after. He then became a regular and gave up his old ways completely.

When one of the students asked the man with interest about the reason for the change, he said no one had ever called me a Sayyidi before.
