Once, a young student had just graduated as an imam at the famous University of al-Azhar in Cairo.

Wearing a turban and a jubba, he was assigned to look after a poor village, at the south of the River Nile.

As a scholar, he knew the entire Qur'an by heart and had memorized an infinity of sayings from the Prophet.

He was a master of the science of jurisprudence and therefore he had a lot to think about.

Arriving at the village on a Friday, he went to the local mosque to preach.

He climbed the pulpit and began to speak Arabic in a sophisticated way to that audience of humble farmers.

The longer he went on his passionate speech, he saw a man bursting into tears, while the others seemed not to understand what was being said.

When he finished his long and fervent sermon, he addressed the tearful man and said, "Only you seem to be able to understand me in front of this audience."

To which the man replied "I'm sorry, Sheikh, but like the others, I didn't understand anything you said."

- So why were you crying?

- This morning I lost a goat that was very dear to me, and the swinging of your goatee while you spoke reminded me of it.
