A Persian, a Turk, an Arab and a Greek were traveling to a distant land when they started an argument to decide how they would spend the only coin they had.
All four wanted food, but the Persian wanted to buy angur, Turkish wanted üzüm, Arabic wanted Inab and Greek wanted stafil. The discussion started to get worse because each man insisted on having what he wanted.
A linguist passing by heard the dispute and said. "Give me the coin, I pledge to satisfy all your wishes". Taking the coin, the linguist went to a nearby store and bought four small bunches of grapes. He then went back to the men and gave a bunch to each.
- “This is my angur!” Shouted the Persian.
-"But that's what I call üzüm," replied the Turk.
-"You brought me my inab," said the Arab.
- “No! That in my language is stafil”! Replied the Greek.
Suddenly, the men realized that what each one of them wanted was, in fact, the same. However, they did not know how to express themselves properly.
The four travelers represent humanity in the search for an inner spiritual need that they cannot define and express in different ways.
