Muadh Ibn Jabal narrated that the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The inhabitants of Paradise will have no remorse (yatahasaru) for anything, except for the moments that they have passed without invoking God. '' ( Tabarani)
The Arabic term used to express remorse in this hadith, ‘’ tahassara ’’, refers to the idea of a bitter and painful regret. It expresses the pain of not having realized the importance of remembering God sufficiently in life. In the words of Imam al-Ghazali, the obstacles that prevent the heart from evaluating things according to their real value, and recognizing the profound nature of everything is the connection with distractions and dispersions in different ways, or '' shawaghil '', which abound in this life. He said in ‘’ Revival of the religious sciences ’’ (Ihya ulum ad-Din) vol. IV pg 478:
“After death, some realities are revealed to the man who in this life was hidden from them, just as the things that are hidden from men during their sleep are discovered by him when he wakes up: “People are sleeping; when they die, they wake up. ’’ The first thing to be revealed to the man in the Future Life is what was beneficial or harmful in the actions he did. In this life, even though this is in a book that is placed in the secret of the human heart, the latter has no access to it due to the distractions of this world (shawaghil ad-dunya). At the moment of his death, these distractions no longer exist and all his actions appear to him as they were ... and this is the meaning of the verse: “Read your book. Today you will be enough to judge yourself. ’’ (Quran 17:14)
