When you realize that God wishes you to discard your religious knowledge, you taste a bitter cup. Yet, while God despises your religious knowledge, he cherishes other qualities within you, which have lain hidden beneath this knowledge. And as you become aware of this, you move towards the genuine and absolute unity of God.

As religious knowledge diminishes, you feel annihilated. But as spiritual knowledge becomes dominant, you feel joyful, because your deepest spiritual desires are being satisfied.

At this stage, all desire for physical pleasure vanishes. You no longer have to watch and control your physical desires, because these desires have disappeared. Moreover, you are able to discern God within the pattern of events, and within the changes in things. You no longer want explanations for events and changes because you understand their inner cause. The faculty of reason is now surpassed by the faculty of intuition
